Bake, uncovered, for 20-25 minutes, until fluffy and browning begins.
In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, buttermilk, butter, corn syrup and baking soda.
Bring to a boil and continue boiling for 5 minutes, while stirring constantly. (This may try to bubble over, so keep a close eye on it.)
