Work It Wednesday {#14}

*For up to date happenings on High Heels and Grills, be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Pinterest and also, don't forget to enter our latest giveaway for a KitchenAid Mixer here!*

Hello people of the world wide web! And welcome to this week's Work It Wednesday! If you're reading this right now, you must be pretty awesome. Not just because out of all the blogs you could be visiting right now, you're visiting ours, but also because we haven't had a Work It Wednesday in over a month and I can't believe you still remembered. Bless your soul.

Anyway, that three little weeks of {unplanned} loss of a computer {and blogging} actually kind of did wonders for me as far as the blog goes. I am so pumped and ready to get back into things and most of all to be able to feature you awesome bloggers! Rules have changed a little bit around here. Not by much, but enough that I want to point it out:

#1 - Link up anything and everything {recipes, crafts, projects, tutorials, etc.} that has been made by you. I don't care what it is as long as it isn't a shop, giveaway, advertisement, link party or something of the like.

#2 - Please link back to us in some way, shape, or form. I understand how annoying this can be sometimes, so I've made a lovely super ugly button {I know, I'm working on it. Give me some time.} for you to put on your blog. You can also put a text link at the end of your post or even put our link in your party page. Just please give credit where credit is deserved!
High Heels and Grills

#3. Please please PLEASE don't link and run. The whole point of a link party is to make connections and friends with people. Put a stop to selfish blogging right now and make someone's day by commenting on at least two blogs! There. I'm glad we had that talk. :)

See, that wasn't hard. Just some important stuff to remember is all.

If after doing these 3 things, you decide you want to subscribe to us via E-mail,  follow us on Pinterest, like us on Facebook, or follow us onTwitter, I definitely would not object! Thank you all. With that being said, work it friends and show me what you've got!!

{*Note: I'll be pinning each of next week's features as well as giving an FB shoutout to the most viewed link. I'm excited to see what you've all been working on!!}

Red Robin Bleu Ribbon Copycat

*For up to date happenings on High Heels and Grills, be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Pinterest!*

This week I was SO looking forward to saying, "welcome to the first Man Monday of 2013!" and it's not even Monday.... Whatevs. Our giveaway kinda stole the cake yesterday, so I got bumped to today. Have no fear, today's post is AWESOME!

Let's take a look at blue cheese for a moment (often spelled "bleu"). Let me get this straight... blue cheese is cheese made from milk, and then injected with the Penicillium mold? Who the heck comes up with this stuff? Since when does mixing anything with mold suddenly make it awesome? I mean, God invented mold for a reason. If mold could talk it would say, "yo idiot, why you tryin' to eat me? I taste terrible because if you do eat me, I'll get you sick!" Yet, magically, if you mix it with cheese, put it on a burger, and call it a blue cheese burger, Zach is willing to fork over some hard earned cash to eat it... so weird.

Friends. I'm addicted. Every restaraunt that I go to, I have to try their blue cheese burger. The very best one that I've ever had was from Red Robin. It even inspired me to make my own version several months ago. Though THAT burger was good, I find that I crave the Bleu Ribbon on pretty much a daily basis. So, I made it.

Now, as most of you (should) know, the Super Bowl is this Sunday. I've adapted a recipe I found on bigoven.com and made sliders for a great Super Bowl idea. Peeps. They taste SO good. I literally had six of them this last week. Granted, they are a little smaller, but still.

Ingredients:
(Makes 6 sliders)
  • 1 dozen dinner rolls (cheap kind is fine, no need to get fancy)
  • 3 tablespoons blue cheese crumbles
  • 3 tablespoons Heinz 57 steak sauce
  • 2 tablespoons mayo
  • 1/2 chipotle pepper (from a can), mashed/pulverized/minced/whatever
  • 1/4 cup onion straws
  • 1 teaspoon butter
  • 1/2 lb ground beef
  • salt and pepper
  • garlic salt
  • lettuce
  • 1 roma tomato

Directions:
  1. I like to assemble all my condiments and toppings first. If you make the meat last, it will be nice and hot when you are ready to serve. So, first, I cut the dinner rolls in half and set aside.
  2. Sauces: Mix the Heinz 57 and blue cheese crumbles together. This will keep the crumbles from crumbling all of the crumbling place. Separately, mix the mayo and your chipotle paste together. Apply the blue cheese mixture to one half of the bun (about 1 tablespoon), and the mayo (about 1 teaspoon) to the other.
  3. Heat your butter on a skillet until it begins to bubble. Add the onion straws, and stir. Cook on medium high heat for only a minute or so. These WILL burn quickly if your not careful.
  4. Split your ground beef into six equal sizes and pound out your individual patties. The patties should be slighly larger than the sizes of the rolls (they will shrink when you cook them). Be sure to season your patties with salt, pepper, and the garlic salt before grilling. Now, normally I don't like to use a personal grill like the George Foreman when cooking my meats. They just dry out too much! I like my burgers juicy. The nice thing about these patties is they are so small that they cook in a flash and don't have time to dry out. In fact, it took me exactly 3 minutes to cook each patty to perfection.
  5. Assemble your burgers with the patty, lettuce, onion straws, and tomato. Enjoy!

I hope you enjoy this recipe. And if you are weirded out by eating moldy stuff like me, just promise me you'll give this a try! I'm telling you, it's incredible, and it will be the perfect addition to your Super Bowl Sunday snacks. *Go 9ers...*

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars

*For up to date happenings on High Heels and Grills, be sure to like us on Facebook and follow us on Pinterest!*

Hey friends! Remember us? Remember how we used to have a blog here? I know it's been a long freakin' while, but don't hold it against us! We own a desktop and a laptop and both of them decided to let their hard drive fail at the same time. The guy at Best Buy said that's completely normal even though our laptop is only 8 months old. Uh, hello?? That is not acceptable. But two hard drives and a few hundred dollars later {boo}, we're finally back and ready to share what we've been up to for the past three weeks!!

So a couple weeks ago, we got invited for dinner at a freind's house and I was super excited about it! Our only assignment? Bring dessert. That's easy enough right? I knew I'd be able to come up with something delicious and let's be honest - when you're making food for people, you kind of want to impress them. So, I went about my week, occasionally looking at things to make on Pinterest, but since I'm awesome at procrastinating, I didn't solidify anything just yet. Sunday rolled around, the day we were suppose to go over for dinner, and...I had totally forgotten I was suppose to make a dessert. Ahh!! I don't like to shop on Sunday, so I told my friend that I may have to come raid her pantry for ingredients.

We got home from church and I had just over an hour until we had to be over there. Normally, an hour would be plenty long enough time, but when 1/2 hour was spent just looking for a recipe, I became frantic. That is, until I came across this recipe for Chocolate Peanut Butter bars from Mandy's Recipe Box! {Thank heavens!} Luckily, I had all the ingredients and it took like 1/2 hour tops to put it all together. Not to mention, they taste amazing!

The original recipe tells you to put a layer of peanut butter between the bar and the chocolate frosting. Well, I didn't have that much peanut butter, so I went without. It still tasted awesome, which is why I put my adapted recipe up, but for the original, be sure to visit Mandy's Recipe Box. {Thanks so much for the great recipe Mandy!!}

Ingredients:

Bars:
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup {2 sticks} butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 2 cups quick oats
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Frosting:
  • 1/2 cup {1 stick} butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 4 Tbsp. cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2-3 cups powdered sugar

Directions:
  1. FOR THE BARS: Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 12x17 inch cookie sheet; set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the sugars and butter together until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs, vanilla, and peanut butter and mix well.
  5. In a small bowl combine oats, flour, salt, and baking soda.
  6. Add the dry ingredients slowly to the wet mixture.
  7. Spread the dough in your greased cookie sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes until golden brown and let cool completely.
  9. FOR THE FROSTING: Mix all ingredients together until smooth.
  10. Spread on top of bars.

These were a hit with our friend's kids! We left a few for their family to enjoy and our friend confessed later that he waited for the kids to go to sleep and then ate the rest of them. Beware: they're addicting. Enjoy!

2012 Fan Favorite Recipe #1

Happy New Year!! Did everyone have a fun New Year's Eve? We went to dinner with my brother and Zachary's sister and ate until we wanted to puke. And then I came home and I did puke. So, things weren't exactly ideal, but they were still fun! We are at Zachary's family's house and we all made it to midnight and were sure to drink lots of sparkling cider and our new favorite drink - blood orange soda. Mmm-mm good! We were able to see a lot of the fireworks that were set off in the Salt Lake valley and it was awesome. What did you guys do??

I'm seriously so excited for today's post. This is the number one fan favorite recipe of 2012 and I wasn't too surprised honestly because it really is delicious. I know you're all sitting on the edge of your seat by now, yelling at your computer screen telling me to get a move on, so I'll go ahead and get the revealing process out of the way. Can I get a drum roll please? {Anyone?} The number one favorite recipe since I started this little blog just six months ago is...8 Can Taco Soup! {Click on the picture for the recipe link.}

This is probably the easiest recipe we have on this blog and that's not even an exaggeration. You put 8 cans of food together and a taco seasoning packet and you magically have one delicious dinner. I've had so many people tell me how much they love this meal, how easy it is, and how cheap it is as well! I've made it at least a half a dozen of times since discovering it and I love it every time. It has definitely become my go to recipe.

I hope you've enjoyed this little countdown and that you have found some good recipes to try! If you liked what you saw, feel free to pin this image that will link you to all 6 of these favorite recipes.

Happy New Year again. I hope 2013 brings you much happiness and joy.
